May 9, 2024 - Above is Bloomberg’s headline yesterday. Today May 9th is the rumored day for an OpenAi/Microsoft/ChatGPT/Bing mega search mofo. Not very sexy.
The not-sexy Search (unfortunately) is central to most of today’s modern advertising and marketing schemes, plans, and revenue. Google Ad words. Sponsored search results from competitors or your prior searches.
These are the nickels and dimes that collectively mean million$ to advertising and media companies. When people f-ck with your bottom line, other people get rather upset. This aforementioned pocket change supports fancy lunches, Cannes vacay’s, and sagging stock value.
So here is what’s going on today. Nothing.
Nothing. The following has been attributed to publication The Information May 7th.
"OpenAI is considering postponing an event at the company’s headquarters where the startup’s leaders were expected to share updates and show product demonstrations, a spokesperson said.
The maker of ChatGPT was planning to present information on Thursday about new products, according to a person with direct knowledge. It is unclear exactly what the event was supposed to be about, but The Information has reported that OpenAI is working on a search product that would put it in more direct competition with Google and AI startup Perplexity. The spokesperson declined to elaborate on the reasons for the change.
OpenAI has faced increasing competition in the past few weeks, including from its financial backer and cloud provider, Microsoft. On Monday, The Information reported that Microsoft, which has invested more than $10 billion into OpenAI and can resell its models, is working on its own large, in-house AI model."
This is the last I’ll speak of it until there is actual news.
